LGS Innovations Wins $14.1 Million Award To Update Fort Leonard Wood Data Network
New IP-Based Network Supports Army Center of Excellence
HERNDON, VA—February 26, 2013— LGS Innovations™, an independent subsidiary of Alcatel-Lucent (NYSE and Euronext Paris: ALU), has been awarded a contract worth $14.1 million to transition the U.S. Army’s Fort Leonard Wood to a digital Voice-over Internet Protocol (VoIP) data system. Fort Leonard Wood is a primary center for all Department of Defense (DoD) training for earthmoving, truck driving, civil support, and CBRN (Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear) First Responders. It also houses the U.S. Army Engineer School, its CBRN School, and the Army Military Police School, as well as the 4th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade. Between 85,000 and 90,000 military and civilian personnel are trained annually at Fort Leonard Wood.
The modernization effort brings a VoIP solution to the facility with 25,000 universal RTU licenses and the ability to expand to as many as 36,000 RTU, if needed.
“This is a great opportunity for LGS to help modernize this important military installation,” said LGS Innovations CEO Kevin Kelly. “By modernizing to a digital data system, Fort Leonard Wood will be able to take advantage of all of the benefits of greater bandwidth, data speeds, and rich media capabilities for its mission.”
LGS selected an Avaya LSC solution for the Fort Leonard Wood VoIP application as a natural transition from the existing Nortel SL100. The solution, based on an Avaya Communication Manager 6 (CM6) unified communications system, provides a resilient, distributed network of gateways with analog, digital, and IP-based communication devices. In addition, CM6 provides robust Public Branch Exchange (PBX) features, high reliability and scalability, and multi-protocol support. It includes advanced mobility features, built-in conference calling, contact center applications, and E911 capabilities.
