VIENNA, Va., March 28, 2007 -- LGS, the subsidiary of Alcatel-Lucent
dedicated to serving the U.S. government community, announced today it is
providing solutions that will help federal government customers transition out
of the 1.710 through 1.755 GHz frequency range, currently used for long-haul
microwave radio transmission, to make way for Advanced Wireless Services.
Working with its parent Alcatel-Lucent, LGS offers a comprehensive portfolio
of telecommunications equipment and turnkey professional services to address
the needs of government agencies required to move as a part of the FCC mandated
AWS Relocation effort.
Using a combination of products and services, LGS provides the industry’s
only 1.755 to 1.850 GHz microwave radio solution, giving agencies the ability
to relocate to new frequencies without changing antennas, network topology or
adding new towers for repeaters.
“The great news for affected government customers is that the cost of these
changes is being covered by proceeds from the 2006 spectrum auctions,” said Ron
Iverson, CEO, LGS. “By acting now, government organizations can maximize
their options and minimize changes to their networks.”
LGS specializes in offering the 1.8 GHz federal band microwave radio
relocation option which provides up to 1 DS3 or 50 Mb/s Ethernet
capacity. This is the only solution on the market that allows federal
operators to make their transition with a simple replacement of the microwave
radio hardware. LGS’s unique methodology also precludes any downtime
during transition.
Remaining in the 1.755-1.850 GHz band is extremely cost effective because
agencies can avoid massive network reconfigurations required to use higher
frequencies such as 8 GHz which have significantly shorter reach. With
LGS’s 1.8 GHz radio, agencies can quickly and conveniently re-use existing
antenna systems thus circumventing challenging tower modifications, adding
towers for new repeater sites, or even forklift tower replacement.
“One of the biggest potential beneficiaries of our exclusive 1.8 GHz
microwave radio would be an agency like the FAA,” said Gil Johnson, director,
business development. “We also offer a number of options and solutions giving
any government agency the flexibility and services they need.”
LGS offers federal agencies the broadest array of AWS relocation options,
including 1.8, 2, 4, 8, 15 & 23 GHz radios plus a complete portfolio of
multiplexing and IP products to fulfill all federal networking
requirements. LGS also provides full turn-key engineering, installation,
and support to address the critical security, operations and resource
requirements of federal entities. We have a dedicated team with the deep
technical and federal expertise that is essential for this process.
