The Alcatel-Lucent 9900 Wireless Network Guardian (WNG) automates and correlates data and performs analysis from the user device through the network elements, thereby giving forensics capability with end-to-end visibility to application, traffic performance and anomalies. The WNG is provided with two network elements: a wireless network detector for deployment in the data center and a wireless network central for deployment in a network or security operations center. Some example WNG use case scenarios include:
WNG alarms on heavy users and congested cells in real time, enabling congestion based policy management.
Understanding the relationship between network settings/policies and device/application behavior.
Identifying the impact of permitted/prohibited device features on network load and performance.
Identifying popular new applications and their impact.
The 9900 Wireless Network Guardian is a market-leading product for 3G and 4G that performs real time network and subscriber experience analytics. It won the 2011 Informa Broadband Traffic Management award for “Most Effective Solution for Integrating RAN-awareness into Policy Management.” The 9900 WNG enables wireless service providers to: 1) Monitor 2G, 3G, and 4G multi-vendor wireless data networks end-to-end from a single location; 2) Get a real-time understanding of how every subscriber flow translates into the consumption of constrained resources on every element in the network; and 3) Identify and address subscribers, servers, and applications that place anomalous “wireless-unfriendly” loads onto the network which significantly degrade performance and capacity.
