The Nokia Nuage Networks data center SDN solution fully virtualizes and automates a data center’s network infrastructure, transforming it into a reflexive, agile environment that instantaneously establishes the network services required to deliver cloud applications across many tenants in a policy-driven manner with a standards-based (OpenStack, etc.) methodology. Alternative Power Solutions
Powering remote communications requires the use of field deployed generators and battery subsystems, but maintaining a fuel supply to these generator systems becomes a very costly expenditure. To facilitate efficient and effective power for deployable communications, LGS Innovations offers a complete analysis of site-specific meteorological data, as well as analysis of existing power design. LGS can develop more efficiently engineered solutions using hybrid techniques to meet site-specific requirements and reduce generator fuel usage by as much as 95%.
LGS Innovations Alternative Power Solutions have been deployed in a variety of remote regions – both on and off a power grid – and consist of hybrid power generation elements such as solar panels, smart batteries, and wind turbines to replace or complement existing power sources. Satellite parabolic dish antennas mounted on command vehicles are typically covered with thin molded or thermoformed dust covers that provide little impact protection and are easily damaged. To address these shortcomings, LGS Innovations develops its ballistic radomes using thermoplastic composite material with radio frequency (RF) transparency that increases both the functionality and the ruggedness of the radome. This capability opens up a variety of applications in the radar and communications areas, where the plastic polymer can provide impact and ballistic protection to a radar or communications transceiver with negligible impact on the network’s performance.
Ballistic radomes from LGS Innovations are suitable for a number of different communications applications, and have been designed to meet the need for mobile communications networks to be able to move voice, video, and data across long distances for ruggedized and reliable mobile communications. Even in extreme heat or cold, LGS Innovations ballistic radomes have excellent impact strength. The weatherable thermoplastic composite armor works well in harsh battlefield environments, and its hydrophobic coatings ensure that water won’t interfere with the communications. The affordable, low-weight material can also be formed into net shapes that do not require a supporting superstructure, allowing for the design of ballistic radomes that cover and protect a variety of antenna systems, including parabolic, beam, patch, and phased array antennas.

4G LTE Systems
In addition to fixed wireless systems, LGS Innovations has integrated deployable backhaul solutions that can support 4G LTE systems and be moved quickly to support first responders at sites needing critical communications during emergencies.
The support of 4G LTE systems has been a recent focus under the FirstNet initiative. As the first responder network with nationally allocated spectrum, FirstNet provides communications services for first responders, public safety personnel, law enforcement, and Department of Defense incident management teams working in conjunction with state and local officials.
Proven Performance: LTE Pilot Program - Hilo, Hawaii
First Responders need immediate access to critical communications, even when the geographical terrain is not conducive to traditional network deployment. LGS Innovations developed a pilot LTE network in Hilo, Hawaii, where volcanoes, high-density vegetation, and a mixture of urban and rural settings presented unique challenges. Over the course of 120 days, LGS Innovations designed, built, and operated a Band 14 network for the U.S. Department of Agriculture in Hilo and the surrounding area of about eight square miles. The architecture included a centralized evolved packet core (EPC), two antenna eNode-Bs installed on 100-foot towers, and the island’s existing fiber network. Deployable communication technology was also heavily utilized throughout the project, as clearings in the vegetation allowed the team to develop a backhaul solution using deployable infrastructure, in an environment where a fixed tower simply would not have worked. The Hilo LTE pilot program provided insight for both Hawaiian and FirstNet officials regarding an understanding of LTE, deployable communications, and what the technology could do to enhance service for the State's first responder network.

The Nokia 7950 Extensible Routing System (XRS) portfolio is a suite of powerful core routing platforms that deliver scale, efficiency and versatility without compromises. The 7950 XRS portfolio revolutionizes the economics of delivering the Internet by offering up to 5 times the density of existing alternatives while consuming only one-third the electricity. The 7950 XRS shatters current density norms with up to 80 100GE and/or 800 10GE ports in a single 19-inch rack and can double this capacity in a dual-chassis, back-to-back system configuration. The 7950 XRS is designed to scale to 40 Tb/s in a single chassis with future expansion to 240 Tb/s system forwarding capacity in a multi-chassis configuration.
The Nokia 7750 Service Router (SR) portfolio has been designed from inception to deliver high performance and high availability routing with service-aware management. It integrates the scalability, resiliency, and predictability of Multi-Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) with the economics of the Ethernet, and provides throughputs from 90 Gbps to 9.6 Tbps and a broad selection of legacy interfaces. At the heart of the 7750 SR is the Nokia award-winning third-generation FP3 silicon chip, the world’s first 400 Gb/s network processor that optimizes 10G, 40G, and 100G networks and provides a clear path to 400G networking. The Nokia Service Router Operating System (SR OS) offers a carrier-grade, highly fault-tolerant, and feature-rich operating system that operates across the entire Nokia Service Router portfolio. The 7750 SR employs highly flexible Hierarchical QoS (H-QoS) with hardware support for multi-tiered shaping and policing hierarchies that support the most stringent SLAs. Integrated Service Adapters (ISAs) as high efficiency processing modules reduce the number of devices needed in the network to minimize cost, floor space, and power and cooling requirements.
The Nokia 7705 Service Aggregation Router (SAR) is a user interface and edge aggregation platform that provides superior IP/MPLS and pseudowire capabilities, and supports network transformation tasks spanning TDM, ATM, Ethernet, and IP/MPLS technologies. The 7705 SAR concentrates traffic from wireline and microwave access sites and adapts the traffic to a normalized IP/MPLS infrastructure that leverages available media, especially scalable, cost-effective Ethernet. It is also extremely effective at transporting legacy traffic such as T1 private line services over a modernized infrastructure. The Nokia 7705 SAR employs pseudowire encapsulation methods to map services end to end. This helps to ensure that the key attributes of each service are maintained, while using a cost-effective packet environment to aggregate services. The services supported include IP routing and forwarding, Virtual Private LAN Service (VPLS), IP Virtual Private Routing Network (VPRN), Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM), inverse multiplexing over ATM (IMA), Multichassis (MC) Multilink PPP (MLPPP), Ethernet, Frame Relay, HDLC and TDM. IP VPN capability allows the separation of Layer 3 traffic among different groups of users or organizations.
LGS also offers the Nokia 1830 Photonic Service Switch (PSS), an industry leading, next generation metro, regional, and long-haul optical network platform that supports Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) with Tunable Remote Optical Add-Drop Multiplexing (ROADM) and terabit optical transport network (OTN) switching. Its coherent technology leverages an electro-optics silicon processor chip, the Nokia Photonic Service Engine (PSE). The 1830 PSS offers a multitude of optical transmission rates from 2.5 Gbps to 200 Gbps today, and is introducing 400 Gbps in completed field trials. Leveraging an intelligent control plane and integrated data, control and management planes, the 1830 PSS simplifies network management for maximum multilayer performance and efficiency. A second optical product, the Nokia 1626 Light Manager (LM) solution, also combines submarine and terrestrial technologies to provide very long haul and ultra-long haul applications, offering a capacity of up to 192 channels at 10G and spanning distances up to 4,500 km without electrical regeneration to enable unrepeatered submarine applications. The Nokia 5620 Service Aware Manager (SAM) provides end-to-end management and service provisioning and monitoring for Global Network devices.
