85 Years of Innovation

Founded in 1925, Bell Labs has unrivaled technical depth and breadth and a deep heritage of creative, life-changing innovations. Originally part of AT&T, Bell Labs was spun into Lucent Technologies in 1996 along with AT&T’s communications equipment division. When Lucent and Alcatel merged in 2006 to become Alcatel-Lucent, LGS Innovations retained the Government Communications Lab portion of Bell Labs. This provides LGS Innovations with continued access to more than 1,000 Bell Labs scientists and researchers located around the world while retaining sole ownership and control over those assets dedicated towards U.S. Federal Government missions. Additionally, through Bell Labs, LGS Innovations maintains access to the collaborations with more than 300 academic institutions; and research in mathematics, physical sciences, nanotechnology, convergence and computer science.

The technology and telecommunications industry research from Bell Labs helped weave the technological fabric of modern society. Its scientists and engineers have made seminal scientific discoveries, launched technological revolutions that reshaped the way people live, work and play, and built the most advanced and reliable communications networks in the world.

Today, the Government Communications Lab of LGS Innovations works on behalf of our customers to interpret and apply the research findings of Bell Labs to address the unique needs of U.S. Federal Government.
